Need Help Training Your Dog? Here Are Some Tips!

When you first meet your dog, chances are he didn’t show his true colors and may have come to you with a few “problems”. With some consistent training, you can transform your rambunctious dog into an intelligent and attentive companion.

When correcting your dog, be concise. Do not waste time ranting about how bad your dog is. Just tell them no, and redirect them to the task you are asking them to do. Do not scream, but rather use a loud and firm voice so they understand that you are serious.

Specific feeding habits should be established with your dog. A predictable feeding schedule and removing the food promptly will teach them to eat their food quickly. Remove the bowl when he is done eating.

Make sure your teething puppy has a bunch of chew toys readily available to him, and keep other things he likes to chew on away from him. Replace the item immediately with one of the dog’s own chew toys. If your puppy needs to chew because he is teething, try a frozen washcloth.

It is a simple task to teach a dog how to roll over, just be sure to keep some dog treats handy! The first step is to teach your dog to lay. Then hold one treat near his head and near the floor. Pull the treat over the dog until your hand is on the other side. He will naturally use his nose to follow the treat, thus rolling over his whole body. Say “roll over” as you perform the maneuver. Be patient with him when you are teaching this because once he learns it, he can be quite the show-off amongst your friends.

Many times dog owners are surprised to see they can easily train their dog on an everyday basis and promptly see the results. Therefore, should you start to feel frustration with your dog, put some of the following advice to work.
